Congrats to the new Royal Couple

Last night the Rheinischer Verein, here in Milwaukee, held their season's crowning event. The new Princinpaar are Hansi & Peggy Mueller. Peggy is a well known musician here and an expert at playing the button box and Hansi accompanies here on the "spoons". We had great fun making wise cracks to poor Hansi about why doesn't your scepter have a spoon on top!

They certainly looked like royalty last night and gave the evening a special flare. Their nephew, Andy Hacker, came with his full 18 piece Blaskapelle, the Blaskapelle Milwaukee, and provided some real authentic Blasmusik. They had a special guest, Ernie Broeniman, who is the director of the Dorfkapelle. He joined the Blaskapelle and played right along with them like just another musician.

Johnny Hoffmann and the Herzbuben provided the dance music for the evening. There was
traditional music and people sang along with some of the songs. One thing different, was when some of
the youngins decided to do some Schunkeling like they do in Johnsonville. Take a look at the picture to the right; they lifted the table up above their heads, Wow!

I will be a wonderful carnival season with these two fun loving people as the royal couple. Be sure to watch/listen for this year's events. They are sure to have a few surprises.

Sunday at German Fest in Milwaukee

During most of the fest I have been able to post pictures the following day, but the Sunday post has taken a longer than usual time for me to get these out there. Sunday was mostly cultural day for me and I took mostly pictures of the cultural display. There were craftsmen who had interesting demonstrations, the porsche display, train village, and even a Tribant was on display this year. While going through the exhibits I saw this year's German-American Societies queen, Courtney, and her friend Eric (who is a German Fest director), they are pictured to the left.

I was selling CD's for the Widdersteiner (Oberallgau Musikanten) most of the weekend, so I did not get to see everything/everyone that German Fest had to offer. I am especially sad that I did not get a picture of my dear friend Peggy Mueller and her husband Hansi. I have no pictures this year of the Austrian Express or Chikeria. They always seemed to be on stage while I was selling CD's. But there is always next year. Next year will be the 30th anniversary of German Fest and I have high hopes that the entertainment line-up will be spectacular.

The Widdersteiner (Oberallgau Musikanten) were a very fun group and it was nice to get to see and hear them again. They were at German Fest two years ago and again delivered a great show. Many fest visitors really enjoyed their antics on stage and were very supportive of German music by buying CDs. I found out that Seppi Kleber owns a hotel back home and if you are ever in Oberstdorf near the Austrian/German border be sure to stop in the Hotel Traub.

Berstetaler in West Bend

Last night we went to the concert in West Bend at the Cinema Brew Haus. There were two showtimes and we went to the 4 pm show (there was another one at 7 pm). Peggy Mueller & Familie started off the show, and as usual, they delivered a fine performance.

The Berstetaler Blasmusikanten followed and played from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm with one intermission. If Blasmusik is your thing, then this is the band for you. It is a fine group of musicians who come from the Brandenburg part of Germany.

They will be playing at the Bavarian Inn today at 2 pm to 6 pm. But our friend, Peggy Mueller, will be starting out the afternoon with her special brand of music at noon.

Don't forget, today is Sunday and Bavarian Inn is offering FREE ADMISSION to all seniors on Sunday.

I have a little slide show below of last night's performance, if it stops before you get to see all the pictures, just click on the X in the right courner of the frame and it will start again.

Berstetaler Musikanten in West Bend

Thanks to Peggy Mueller for letting us know that the Berstetaler Blasmusikanten from Germany will be doing a special performance in West Bend on Saturday, September 13. We are happy that they included Wisconsin in their 14 day tour in the U.S. while they celebrate their 10 year anniversary. Check out their website and see what they are all about.

Yes, I know that they are also appearing at the Bavarian Inn Oktoberfest on Sunday, but I thought if some people were not able to make the Sunday performance they might like the details for this Saturday performance.

There will be 2 shows on Saturday. They are being sponsored by WTKM and Richard Feutz from WTKM Radio provided some details for us. These will be 2 nice shows where you have a comfortable seat and can enjoy the music.

There is one show at 3:30 pm and the other show starts at 6:30 pm. The first half hour of the show features our own Peggy Mueller on her button box. Then the show continues with the Berstetaler Blasmusikanten.

Each show is only $5.00.

Sunday at German Fest

Sunday was the last day of German Fest 2008. I was lucky enough to help the Sandlers/Die Fichtler Buam sell their CDs during the fest. They were a very energetic band and by Sunday they already had their own following. If you were one of the people who enjoyed the Sandlers/Die Fichtler Buam, you can see them one more time before they return to Germany in Toledo, Ohio at the German-American Festival on August 22, 23 & 24. Click on the link and you will see our own Peggy Mueller is also playing at the German-American Festival. If you look at the Friday report below, it has a picture of Peggy & Peter when the Sandlers/Die Fichtler Buam surprised her during her performance on the Musikanten Garten stage, along with the leader of the Milwaukee Blaskapelle, Andy Hacker.

If you would like to see the pictures I took on Sunday, click HERE and it will take you to my webshots pictures. You will see mostly the entertainers in these pictures, because quite honestly, that's my favorite.

Hey were you wondering what kind of press coverage German Fest got this year on local Milwaukee TV stations, take a look at the links I have listed below.

Channel 4, WTMJ: Biba & the Buetzemaenner, & Pommerische Tanzdeel,

Channel 6, Fox: Schmalzlers, Biba & the Buetzemaenner, Pommerische Tanzdeel, & Anton aus Tirol

Channel 12, WISN: Various slideshows & videos of German Fest

Saturday at German Fest

Saturday at German Fest is always party night and everywhere you looked the party was going strong. In the morning, Edith Prock, was on our local TV and you can see some of those pictures along with others taken if you click HERE. The link will take you to webshots into the Saturday German Fest album. This year there was a live Tarzen in the culture tent representing the famous German-American, Johnny Weissmueller, and there are pictures that you can see if you click HERE.

It was also parade day. There were many, many local German groups participating in the parade and even some of the German stars were invited to be in the parade. The weather was absolutely perfect and we alll had a great "party" yesterday.

2008 German Fest - Friday

On Friday the fest opened its doors at 3 pm. I handed out a lot of cards with the web address of this blog and if I took a picture of you will find it by click HERE. The link takes you to an album in Webshots and you can easily download any pictures you would like.

I was at the Musikgarden when Milwaukee's popular musician, Peggy Mueller, was surprised by the Sandlers. They came carrying their instruments so they could PLAY with Peggy (and nephew, Andy, on the tuba). They never practiced before and they played together flawlessly. Now that's Muscians!!! If you haven't seen the Sandlers yet, be sure to see them tonight (Saturday) at the Miller stage. It is sure to be a PARTY!!!
